It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Saint Francis of Assisi School family announces the passing of Madame Maria Teresa Aguas Mercader, our beloved School President and one of the founders of SFAS.

She peacefully joined our Creator on September 8, 2026, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

For more than 57 years, Mdm. Mercader devoted her life to nurturing the SFAS community with faith, love, and service. Her leadership and compassion shaped generations of Franciscans, leaving behind a legacy that will forever remain in our hearts.

As a final tribute, her mortal remains will lie in state at St. Francis of Assisi School, Peace Valley, Lahug, Cebu City—the school she lovingly helped build and the community she cherished.

• 🙏 Holy Mass: Every evening at 8:00 PM

• 🕊️ Interment: September 13, 2026, Cempark, Banilad, Cebu City

In solemn recognition of her life and service, there shall be NO CLASSES on September 10–11, 2026, observed as Two Days of Mourning in honor of our beloved School President.

We humbly ask the entire SFAS community—students, parents, teachers, staff, alumni, and friends—to join us in solidarity and prayer for the eternal repose of her soul. May we remember Mdm. Mercader not only with sadness, but with gratitude for the countless lives she touched and the enduring values she upheld.

“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.”
